AK Seeds of Change is part of the ACMHS Transition Age Youth Continuum of Services. Its mission is two-fold: To engage, empower and employ at-risk youth and to provide locally grown crops in Anchorage. AK Seeds will decrease our reliance on imported food by offering fresh produce year-round and assist youth in developing vocational skills and experience that will assist them in the transition to adulthood.
We wanted to keep active in our community, but at the time they were not taking volunteers for safety reasons. We were brainstorming ways to help when Rebecca, their Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator mentioned they do a weekly meeting for educational presentations and that they often have lunch sponsors to feed the youth during the meetings. We were so excited, we decided to do a lunch donation once a week for a month. We were able to donate 2 Pita Pit platters and 2 cookie platters each week!
