AK Seeds of Change is part of the ACMHS Transition Age Youth Continuum of Services. Its mission is two-fold: To engage, empower and employ at-risk youth and to provide locally grown crops in Anchorage. AK Seeds will decrease our reliance on imported food by offering fresh produce year-round and assist youth in developing vocational skills and experience that will assist them in the transition to adulthood.
Microcom was fortunate enough to meet this program at a Farmer’s Market last summer and we were so excited about the program and the opportunities that it offers the at-risk youth in our community that we decided to add it to our family of community involvement.
After a fundraiser we ran for Seeds of Change last year, we were given a tour of their hydroponics greenhouse and were amazed at what they are growing and the potential of the program. Alaskan’s value our gardening season, and this was an amazing venue!
Microcom now routinely visits to help with harvesting, planting, cleaning and stocking. Our recent visit took place during the DISH Day of Service, where DISH Retailers all over the states get involved with their local communities and help any way they can.
