Now that the holidays are approaching, our Hilo team decided to sponsor two children from the Samaritan’s Purse as part of Operation Christmas Child. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to give to children in disaster areas while also spreading the word of Jesus Christ. After sharing the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37), Jesus said, “Go and do likewise.” That is the mission of Samaritan’s Purse—to follow the example of Christ by helping those in need and proclaiming the hope of the Gospel. Our team put together a box for a little girl aged 2-4yrs that consisted of a toothbrush, hairbrush, 16-pack of pencils, pencil sharpener, a box of crayons, a notebook, a doll, bouncy ball, jump rope, 3 beaded necklaces, a pack of hair accessories, and a flashlight. For the 2nd child, we filled the box for a boy 5-6 yrs old with a toothbrush, comb, a pack of 16 pencils, a pencil sharpener, a box of crayons, a notebook, a soccer ball with a pump, a bouncy ball, yo-yo, Frisbee, slippers, and a t-shirt.
